NRL Predictions - Round 22

Category: Weekly Tips
Melbourne Storm v Manly Sea Eagles
Without doubt Manly and Melbourne have been the two best teams in the competition this season. This clash promises to be an absolute cracker and it’s NRL Live’s Game of the Round, so click HERE for an indepth preview. It’ll be close, but I’m backing the Storm to win.
St. George Illawarra Dragons v Wests Tigers
This is a crucial game for both sides. The Tigers will be hoping to stay in touch with the top eight, while the Dragons are looking to consolidate sixth position after last week’s one point loss to the Sharks. Significantly St. George’s two starting props, Jason Ryles and Justin Poore, are missing due to injury – they may struggle for go forward. I like the look of the Tigers, Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah are starting to gel and become an increasing dangerous halves pairing. Tigers to triumph.
New Zealand Warriors v Brisbane Broncos
The return of custodian Wade McKinnon is a big boost for the Warriors, while the Broncos will dearly miss the likes of Tonie Carroll, Justin Hodges and Sam Thaiday. It’s a big challenge for Brisbane but I think they’ll step up and be counted. Broncos by eight points.
Cronulla Sharks v South Sydney Rabbitohs
It’s hard to see the Sharks losing this one. They’re one of the toughest teams in the comp and the Souths backline will struggle to make an impact. Sharks by 1-12.
Canterbury Bulldogs v North Queensland Cowboys
This match has kindly been dubbed the battle for the wooden spoon. However, even though it’s fifteenth versus sixteenth, it will be an even encounter. I’m backing the Cowboys to win their first game in a long, long time.
Canberra Raiders v Penrith Panthers
It will be interesting to see how Canberra respond after the loss to the Broncos last round. Has their bubble burst? Or will they bounce back into form? Only time will tell. Personally I think the Raiders will be too strong for the Panthers on the back of their home ground advantage.
Sydney Roosters v Parramatta Eels
What’s gone wrong with Parramatta? On paper they should be in the top eight but for some reason find themselves at thirteenth on the table. They’re due for a good performance and, if they click, could be a side to watch out coming into the backend of the season. In saying that though, the Roosters should come away with the two points.
Gold Coast Titans v Newcastle Knights
Despite the return of Mark Minichiello and Nathan Friend, the Titans still have too many on the injury list to pose a real threat to Newcastle. If the Knights forwards can hold their own, the halves pairing of Jarrod Mullen and Scott Dureau will prove too creative.
…
I picked 6/8 last weekend (75%). My overall tally for the season stands at 91/152 (60%).
