Canberra Raiders v Brisbane Broncos
By Matthew Johns
3pm Sunday
This Sundays match up between the rampant Green Machine and the stuttering Broncos promises to be the highlight of Round 21.
There must be something in the food in the Capital Territory, with blazing performances from a team that seemed to have faded in recent seasons.
That's fast becoming a distant memory, with attacking flair reviving thoughts of the glory years in the 90's.
Canberra can look to Colin Best and Adrian Purtell to exploit a defensive line that is starting to cause a headache for Wayne Bennett. The Broncos are simply missing too many tackles, and the Raiders will be keen to take the initiative.
Canberra cannot afford to forget their own defensive line though, as the Broncos have a habit of kicking into gear just at the right time. And if last week’s gutsy performance against the Sharks is anything to go by, the week long blasting from Bennett has found its mark.
The ball will be sent wide at every opportunity, as the two teams lead the competition in long range tries. The X factor will certainly be on show.
This game will be won with defence though, and the team with the greatest passion and desperation on their own line will take this out.
Look out for power performances from Joel Monaghan, and defensive grit from Alan Tongue on the Green Machine side. On the Broncos side Sam Thiaday will be aiming to spark, and Darren Lockyer is looking to regain the form he showed earlier in the season.
Greg Eastwood too will be keen to back up a man of the match performance last week.
This has got to be the most eagerly anticipated match between these two sides for over 15 years... I can't wait.
