NRL Live Predictions - Round 7

St. George Illawarra Dragons ($3.10) v Sydney Roosters ($1.35)
The traditional ANZAC day clash is always interesting. This match is usually a close one and it'll be no different this year. Apparently Mark Gasnier will make a surprise return for the Dragons but unfortunately for their chances it comes at the expense of fellow strike centre Matt Cooper. From a betting perspective the Dragons are great value but the Roosters should win on the back of their superior halves pairing.
Brisbane Broncos ($1.18) v South Sydney Rabbitohs ($4.50)
The Broncos will be looking to bounce back after a tense loss to the Titans (it was a fantastic match to attend), while the Bunnies are still to register a victory. Once again, despite the discrepancies in odds, I can see this being a very tight encounter. However, the return of skipper Darren Lockyer should give the Broncos enough attacking spark to secure the two points.
Manly Sea Eagles ($1.45) v Canterbury Bulldogs ($2.65)
A tough match to pick. Manly showed remarkable grit and determination to overcome the Eels last Friday night and, although this will give them great confidence, they could be feeling the pinch physically. On the other hand, the ‘Dogs ran riot over the Dragons and are also taking good form into this clash. I’m going to back Manly to win on the back of their home ground advantage.
North Queensland Cowboys ($2.15) v Melbourne Storm ($1.68)
This could well be the match of the round. Both teams have been brilliant in attack over the past few weeks and there should be plenty of excitement from the likes of Bowen, Thurston, Slater, Inglis and Folau. The clash of the forwards will also be exhilarating. North Queensland’s pack will be out to prove that they can match it with big boys of the Storm. Overall I think Melbourne should win but either way, it’s going to be a cracker.
Gold Coast Titans ($1.57) v New Zealand Warriors ($2.60)
There may just be an upset at Skilled Park on Sunday. The Titans early season form has been outstanding but they’re probably due for a bad performance. The Coast will need all the oomph they can muster against a physical Warriors’ pack and their effort to beat the Broncos last round may have taken too much out of the team. It’s a risky tip but I’m backing New Zealand to win.
Cronulla Sharks ($1.65) v Wests Tigers ($2.20)
The other Sunday game sees the defensive solidarity of the Sharks take on the attacking flair of the Tigers. All the hype surrounding the match has been about the return of Benji Marshall and from the perspective of a rugby league fan, I hope he gets through the game unscathed. The Tigers are at their best on a Sunday afternoon and have the pace and footwork to really trouble the Sharks. Cronulla will rely on their brutal forwards to bash the smaller Wests’ pack, but it won’t be enough. Tigers to win.
The Raiders, Eels, Knights and Panthers all have the bye this weekend and will enjoy week off and the two free competition points.
Last week I tipped 4/8 (50%) proving my predictions are really no better than those of a coin.
My tally for the season is 26/48 (54%).
