NRL Live Predictions - Round 13

June 5th 2008 00:24
Category: Weekly Tips
New Zealand Warriors v ($1.25) v South Sydney Rabbitohs ($3.75)

The Warriors have only lost once at home this season and I can’t see them being beaten by the Rabbitohs in this encounter. Despite the unavailability of Steven Price and Brent Tate, New Zealand have named a strong line-up. On the other hand, Souths have a very inexperienced backline, with Jamie Simpson and Chris Sandow making their NRL debuts. Sandow could now be the smallest player in the NRL and he’ll be tested in defence by the size of the Warriors’ forwards. Warriors to win by plenty.

St. George Illawarra Dragons ($1.33) v Brisbane Broncos ($3.15)

Wendell Sailor’s back! After two years in the wilderness, Sailor will make his highly publicised comeback against his former club and I’m sure most rugby league fans will be tuning in on Friday night. The Dragons have only two players missing due to Origin (Gasnier and Cooper), while the Broncos have six (Boyd, Lockyer, Thaiday, Hunt, Hannant and Wallace). As a Brisbane supporter my heart says Broncos but my head says Dragons in a tight game.

Canterbury Bulldogs ($1.80) v Newcastle Knights ($2.00)

Well as the betting odds suggest, this will be a very close match. The Bulldogs are missing a number of key players due to injury (SB Williams, Tonga, Pattan and Hickey), while the Knights will be without Origin reps Gidley, Buderus and Simpson. The Bulldogs will be determined to bounce back after a poor showing against the Storm last weekend and I think they’ll grab the two points.

Wests Tigers ($1.15) v North Queensland Cowboys ($5.00)

The Cowboys produced a brave effort in their loss to the Panthers, while Wests went down to the Roosters in pouring rain last Monday night. On paper the Tigers look set to win by at least 20 and, to be honest, I think they will. The Tigers should have too much class across the paddock for an under strength Cowboys team.

Parramatta Eels ($1.25) v Canberra Raiders ($3.75)

The final Saturday fixture sees the Eels meet the Raiders. Both teams have no players taking part in State of Origin (the Eels Jarryd Hayne was named for NSW but has since been suspended). The Raiders will try their hearts out but will lack spark in attack against a slick Parramatta backline. Eels to win.

Penrith Panthers ($1.45) v Cronulla Sharks ($2.65)

The Panthers are favourites in this encounter but the Sharks will give them a run for their money. Penrith will be without the services of prop Civoniceva, while Cronulla will miss the aggressive nature of Bird and Gallen. I think the Panthers will win, they’ve hit some good form lately and I know it’s early days but they could be a darkhorse for the premiership.

Manly Sea Eagles ($1.57) v Sydney Roosters ($2.30)

Manly should win this one but the Roosters have been in terrific form over the past month or two and will be strengthened further by the inclusion of Anthony Minichiello at fullback. But the Sea Eagles are a fearsome prospect at Brookvale and I think they’ll come away with a victory.

Gold Coast TItans ($1.14) v Melbourne Storm ($5.25)

Monday night footy sees the Titans take on the Storm at Skilled Park. The Storm are missing the bulk of their regular first grade team, with Slater, Inglis, Folau, Smith, Johnson, Crocker, Quinn, White, Hoffman and probably Turner all playing for either QLD or NSW. It’ll be a big task for the Melbourne rookies and I think the Titans will win based on their home ground advantage, their experience and their overall class across the park.

I would have picked a perfect round last weekend if not for the Panthers win over the Cowboys in golden point. I tipped 7/8 (88%) and my overall tally for the season stands at 51/86 (59%).

Happy tipping this week and please feel free to comment with your own tips!
