Category: Weekly Predictions
Brisbane Broncos ($1.40) v Parramatta Eels ($2.80)
Inspirational Broncos skipper Darren Lockyer is set to make his return against the Eels and this will be a big boost for the home team. However, considering the rainy conditions, he may not play a huge part as the match will be decided in the forwards. The likes of Michael Ennis and PJ Marsh should get the Brisbane pack rolling and I can see the Broncos winning in a tight contest.
Canberra Raiders ($2.35) v Manly Sea Eagles ($1.55)
Manly would be determined to bounce back from a disappointing loss last weekend, while the Raiders will be fresh off the bye. The Raiders are always a tough proposition at home and I can see yet another close Friday night encounter. However, the Manly forwards look to have too much skill for the often one dimensional Canberra pack. Sea Eagles to win.
Melbourne Storm ($1.08) v Canterbury Bulldogs ($7.00)
Well as the betting odds suggest, it would take a massive upset for the ‘Dogs to best the Storm at Olympic Park. Canterbury will be without the likes of SB Williams, Tonga, Patten and Utai and will lack spark against a clinical Melbourne outfit. Storm by plenty.
Newcastle Knights ($1.40) v New Zealand Warriors ($2.80)
I’m not sure who to pick in this one. Both teams have been slightly out of sorts lately and are due for a win. The boys from NZ have yet to win away from home this season but I can see them getting close here. I think the inclusion of Nathan Fien at five-eighth will give them another dimension in attack. I’m tentatively tipping the Warriors.
North Queensland Cowboys ($1.50) v Penrith Panthers ($2.50)
We often see teams fire up following the mid season departure of their coach (note Jason Taylor with the Eels and Fittler with the Roosters last season) and I think we’ll see a very determined Cowboys team on Saturday night. The Panthers have been improving as every weeks goes by but it’ll be a tough ask for them up north. Expect a Cowboys victory in a high scoring affair.
South Sydney Rabbitohs ($2.40) v St. George Illawarra Dragons ($1.53)
The Dragons will be missing captain Mark Gasnier but should still have enough firepower to overcome the Bunnies. Souths have been through all sort of drama over the past week and teams do tend to thrive on adversity but I can’t see them winning on this occasion. Dragons to claim the two points.
Cronulla Sharks ($1.70) v Gold Coast Titans ($2.10)
The Sharks went down to Bulldogs last round, while the Titans lost in a thriller to the Wests Tigers. I think the Titans are due for a poor performance and, if the Sharks can muscle up, they should come away with a win.
Sydney Roosters ($1.50) v Wests Tigers ($2.50)
This one will be great to watch. The Roosters are cruising along atop the NRL table, while the Tigers would have gained a mountain of confidence from their win over the inform Gold Coast Titans. I’ll tip the Roosters based on the physical nature of their pack – but it should be awesome to watch either way.
Last week I picked a fairly ordinary 2/5 (40%). My overall tally for the season stands at 44/78 (56%).
Happy tipping this week and please feel free to comment!
