Category: Weekly Predictions
Manly Sea Eagles ($1.36) v St. George Illawarra Dragons ($3.00)
The Sea Eagles will be soaring after their 38-10 win over an under strength Cowboys, while the Dragons also won convincingly against a Melbourne team missing nine regulars due to Origin. Manly have shown good form in recent weeks and their forward pack has proven very hard to handle. However, I have a feeling that the Dragons are primed for an upset. But overall it’s very hard to tip against the Sea Eagles at home and I think they’ll win in a tight contest.
As the betting odds suggest, the Storm are heavy favourites in this contest. Souths have been in all sorts of trouble this season and were comprehensively thrashed by the Raiders last weekend. However, their Melbourne opponents have had an extremely interrupted preparation, with 9 players – and coach Craig Bellamy – involved in Origin. If they were playing a team other than the Rabbitohs I’d be concerned but they’re not, so I’m tipping the Storm.
The Warriors are undefeated at home in 2008 but will face tough opposition from a Roosters team buoyed from last weekend’s surprise win over the Eels. New Zealand will play a physical game and Sydney may struggle with the likes of Mason, Myles, Tupou and Fitzgibbon all backing up from Wednesday night. I think the Warriors will win but they’ll be tested.
This is the match of the round without a doubt. The Tigers and Titans are two of the best attacking teams in the competition and a dry Sunday afternoon track will ensure plenty of ball movement. It should be a fantastic spectacle. The Titans have shown a tendency to struggle away from home but I think they’ll get the two points on this occasion.
Monday night footy sees the Bulldogs take on the Sharks at ANZ Stadium. The Canterbury pack will be fresh and their forwards should have too much speed and footwork on the fringe of the ruck for the Sharks. Bulldogs to win.
The Broncos, Cowboys, Eels, Knights, Panthers and Raiders all have the bye this round.
Last week I picked a respectable 5/8 (63%). My overall tally for the season stands at 42/73 (58%).
Happy tipping this week and please feel free to comment!
