Dally M Awards - Who I think will win

September 3rd 2008 07:45
Category: Opinion

With the annual Dally M Awards being announced on Semptember 9, here's who I think will take out the prizes in season 2008.

Full Dally M info can be found HERE

Dally M Medal
Matt Orford (was leading in voting at round 16 and, with the Sea Eagles soaring at top of the table, should have picked up plenty of votes in the meantime)

Fullback of the Year
Kurt Gidley (has been simply sensational for the Knights but Billy Slater will be tough to beat)

Winger of the Year
Denan Kemp (one slightly out of the blue but Denan is the highest try scorer in the NRL. What more could you ask for from a winger?)

Centre of the Year
Mark Gasnier (probably hasn’t been at his best this year but no other centre has been as strong as Gaz in 2008. Ben Pomeroy from Cronulla could be a bolter)

Five-Eighth of the Year
Terry Campese (has been the catalyst behind Canberra’s late season surge)

Halfback of the Year
Matt Orford (if you win the Dally M, you get the positional award)

Lock Forward of the Year
Paul Gallen (perhaps a controversial choice but is definitely the best lock in the game at the moment)

Second-Rower of the Year
Chris Heighington (has been a shining light in a disappointing season for the Tigers and was the highest placed backrower when voting closed)

Prop of the Year
Steve Price (shows the way forward for the Warriors and still dominates at Origin level)

Hooker of the Year
Cameron Smith (it’d be nice to see Danny Buderus bow out with this award but Smith is just too consistent)

Representative Player of the Year
Cameron Smith (captained Queensland to their third consecutive State of Origin series victory)

Captain of the Year
Alan Tongue (fearless leader for the Raiders who has played out of position at hooker and halfback with aplomb)

Rookie of the Year
Chris Sandow (has given the Bunnies enthusiasm and spark in attack since debuting mid-year. It’ll be interesting to see how he plays next year with a full off season of NRL standard training under his belt)

Coach of the Year
Des Hasler (has taken his team to top spot on the ladder)
